20 years of Unimec Day: from the 2001 tornado, the tale of a company celebrating its strength and the strength of its employees

July 7, 2001 – July 7, 2021: 20 years have passed from the day, that one summer afternoon, a tornado hit the Brianza region and leveled the Unimec factory. 

 

 

This is a particularly emotional “anniversary” in our company: it is a constant reminder of how Unimec was able to resurrect from its own ashes thanks to the team spirit, the help and the drive to always be bold and go forward in the face of adversity: the founding principles of Unimec since its incorporation back in 1981.

Even this year, Luigi Maggioni, the founder of Unimec (who was buried under the ruins of the building and sustained multiple injuries) held a touching speech with contributions from his son Alessandro and other milestone characters in the history of Unimec.

Unimec Day (this is how we dubbed this special date) was also an opportunity to award all those employees that distinguished themselves for their outstanding performance or for their loyalty and seniority with our team.

It was natural to draw a certain parallelism between the factory destruction of 2001 and the Covid-19 crisis that hit in the last 18 months: both tragic, life–changing events that could not deter Unimec’s tenacity and unshakable drive to get back on its feet and keep going forward.

Unimec Day is, and always will be, a memento of a catastrophic event and a testament of the symbiotic bond between the company and all of its employees.
